Professional Classroom for Financial Trading Simulation 
 

The financial trading simulation professional classroom which our department owns is to provide students with the specialized environment for the purpose of training students and improving their understanding of the reality. Thereinafter we describe the information dividing into lab scheme, computer hardware equipment and specialized software dividing account:

 
 
 

I. Scheme

 

The professional classroom our department planned is consisted of four major functional areas, including the areas of TV wall, discussion, simulated transaction, and signboard areas. All the areas complement each other. That not only can help the students of our department develop related business skills, but can provide the faculty and students with a professional financial transaction environment.

 

1. The TV wall area: (software and transmission equipment included)

Through the mainframe, transmitting the prompt information with stock market and AP requires the whole cooperation of simulated transaction area.  

Applicable to the courses:

Investments, Financial Management, Financial Markets, Security Investment Analysis, Futures and Options, Bond, Foreign Exchange, Applied Statistics, Research Module.

2. Seminar Room (horseshoe table )

 

The seminar room is used to offer discussion and application for the class in which student numbers are limited and it can lift the quality of teaching and discussion. Users are able to attain instant information and relevant databases with the combination of the facilities of TV wall.  

Applicable to the courses:

Financial Statement Analysis, Case Study, Research Module, and Teaching Seminar.

 

 

 

3. Simulation Trading Area (equipped with personal computers)

 

It is an interactive instruction imitating the real trade-off situation of bank loan, financial bill, foreign exchange between two sections. As an example, displays the information of various financial market through the TV wall. After seeing the simulated messages (for example, the Central Bank adjusts the deposit reserve rates), students should be able to evaluate the possible changes in the financial market and make a response to quote a price through computers. Each computer represents a bank. In the meanwhile, one can go into each Terminal by computers’ connection and know how the price each bank quoted. By interacting with each other and holding the contest of simulated trade-off, we would improve the efficiency of learning. The idea of Simulated Trading Area originates from the idea of the training programs for bank faculty. This is brainchild of the faculty of our department, so the software is developed and researched by ourselves. No school has such kind of functional classroom so far.

Related courses like the TV wall area mentioned above, in particular applicable to the simulated trades on interactive instruction, bonds, and foreign exchange.

4. Signboard Area (banking boards and monitors)

 

“Monetary market” boards and TSEC listed securities stock price volume and index boards and overhead projector monitors.

II.    Hardware Facilities

 

1. Television Wall:

8*3 28 inch showing screen, 1 television wall central processing unit, 3 television control units, professional modem.

In front of the television wall are track whiteboard which will inside the right of the television wall. In front of the whiteboard is the screen of the episcope which can missile. In the usual time, it will roll to the ceiling.

 

2. Simulating Trade Area

46 personal computers (include one for the teacher) (Pentium III 600,128M RAM,20GB HD),server, computer internet broadcasting system, 2 laser printers, 4 colorful printers, 7 scanners, 10 dot matrix printers.

7. MATLAB in Financial Engineering

IV. Future Development

Our department plans to imitate a professional classroom. Besides software and hardware can satisfy our current needs, we further plan the professional classroom into several ways to develop.

(1) United the library and the source of computer center, provide our teachers and students have international financial trading virtual reality.

(2) The main professional teachers in our department will devise all kinds of financial trading imitational software which is united to practical experience, for example, bond trading, ticket trading, and foreign exchange trading etc.

(3) The professional classroom can provide a general practical financial training program for common people.

(4) The professional classroom also provides employees who work for financial institutions have professional education training and build up an education-industrial complex relationship.
